Day 25: Describe your location
Exact... ugly tapestry looking covered wheeled office chair in front of a cherry computer armoire that sits in my family room... only illumination is provided by a chintzy desk lap (courtesy of Wal-Mart) that is black and dons a Stars Wars stickers (courtesy of Drew).
Let me preface my location with a disclaimer: I am blessed to live in a beautiful big two-story house in a fancy-schmancy neighborhood. A typical household is a stay-at-home-mom and a working dad... lots of people exercise, we have trails, we have parks, we have an exemplary rated Elementary school just a mile from my home. Blah... Blah... Blah...
In general, however, I live in suburbia-hell. I live in neighborhoods with 6-8 feet between the houses so that if you're sitting in the water closet in my bathroom and my neighbor is walking up the stairs leading off her kitchen, she can peer into my bathroom...and see me... sitting in the loo. Not that she would. But she could. And, for me, that's too close.
I live in the land of concrete and strip malls. Everything you'd possibly want is within a 10 mile radius. 15 miles if you want to count the mall. Like I said...suburbia hell.
My preference? Solitude. Acreage. Quiet. Crickets.
I would, however, settle on enough room for privacy while still having neighbors so the boys could play. Enough land for say... a basketball court/tennis court way in the back... a garden... a dog run... a pool (?)... lots of trees... and still some greenery...
Ah I can finally comment. Not sure why I haven't been able to the past few days. I agree that I think acreage with neighbors is the ideal way to live. I want to be able to see other houses but not reach out and touch them!
ReplyDeleteI live in suburbia too, but our subdivision is older, so we have huge yards. I often think I'd like to have a newer house with bigger bathrooms and higher ceilings (and countertops that aren't harvest gold) but then I remember my yard and my garden and that all goes away. I'm with you though, I'd much rather live somewhere with more space and solitude.
ReplyDeletePS to Paula - I haven't been able to post on your blog lately either, but I was able to today.
SOunds like where I just moved from. Typical neighborhood type thing. WE downsized our house but we got 5.5 acres out of it. Hard to get used to, but it's a good trade in our opinions. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL but wouldn't it be fun to wave to her as she walked by?
ReplyDeleteI'm with you.....LOVE privacy and not having neighbors too close. The house we're in now is the closest I've ever been to a neighborhood, and honestly, I'd rather be in the woods. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like close neighbors, but not THAT close! Your house and neighborhood sound nice. I wish we had more hiking trails in my 'hood. Acreage is nice.
ReplyDeleteI would die if the neighbor could see me on the toilet! Luckily neither of our bathrooms have windows, LOL.
